Consultant Radiologist

Dr Lee is our Consultant Radiologist at Luma Women’s Imaging Centre. Previously involved in multidisciplinary care of breast cancer patients, Dr Sonia Lee is well-versed in interpreting all breast imaging studies and experienced in performing ultrasound-guided, stereotactic-guided and MRI-guided breast biopsies and localisations, earning praise for her attentiveness and professionalism.
Prior to joining Luma, Dr Lee was a Consultant Radiologist and Clinical Assistant Professor at Changi General Hospital. She is an accredited BreastScreen Singapore (BSS) radiologist and is thoroughly involved in multidisciplinary care of breast cancer patients. She has completed clinical observerships in subspecialty breast imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City (USA) and Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina (USA).
Education and Research
Educating and training the next generation of doctors and radiologists is one of Dr Lee’s keenest interests. She currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor for SingHealth Duke-NUS and Clinical Faculty for NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
From mentoring, directing to spearheading training programmes for medical students and radiology residents, she finds fulfilment and gratification in continual refinement of radiology education. She has served as course director and faculty in numerous undergraduate and post-graduate training programmes, inspiring juniors to similarly embrace their roles as clinical educators. For her enduring spirit, Dr Lee’s efforts were recognised with accolades including the CGH Best Educator Award (Guru), SingHealth Inspiring Resident Educator Award and SingHealth RADSC ACP Programme Excellence Award.
Within the sphere of breast imaging, Dr Lee is a regularly-invited speaker, faculty and moderator at local and regional breast imaging and intervention workshops, as well as conferences such as the Singapore Congress of Radiology.
Dr Lee’s research interests lie strongly in the field of breast imaging and radiology education. She presents research regularly at local and international conferences, has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a reviewer for the MEDLINE-indexed Breast Disease international journal.
Leadership and Advocacy
Dr Lee is a regular speaker at breast cancer awareness seminars for the general public, healthcare workers and general practitioners, raising awareness for the importance of early cancer detection with regular mammographic screening.
Apart from clinical work, Dr Lee is passionate about advocating for the improvement of junior doctor welfare and training, and has served as Chair of the SingHealth Residents’ Committee, Deputy Chair of the CGH Junior Doctors’ Well-Being Committee, Chief Resident, Member of the SMA Doctors-in-Training Committee and SingHealth Graduate Medical Education Committee, and departmental Deputy Head of Training and Quality Officer. She was actively involved in multiple subcommittees championing enhancement of clinical processes and staff engagement. Her efforts were accorded with commendations including the Outstanding Chief Resident Award and clinching annual Outstanding Resident/Medical Officer Awards from 2013 to 2019.
In addition, Dr Lee believes in the power of collaboration and cohesion within the local radiological community, contributing to meaningful fundraising events as an emcee, performer or member of the organising committee. She has also served in the Executive Committee of the Singapore Radiological Society.
